USPHL Premier Players Of The Month – October 2022: Florida Division

(Summaries by Joshua Boyd)

Forwards

Thomas Filoramo, Columbia Infantry

After blowing the doors off of the USPHL Elite with a 63-point season in 37 games last year, Filoramo signed on with the brand-new Infantry, with whom he’s already blowing the doors off the Premier.

The ‘02 from Estero, Fla., is a goal-per-game performer with 16 goals and nine assists for 25 points in 16 games. He’s only missed the scoresheet three times this year and he’s entering November on an active 8-4-12 scoring streak over his last seven games.

A former high scorer with the Elite Hockey Academy AAA program, he joined his hometown Florida Jr. Blades last year, and received Elite Florida All-Star honors after the season wrapped up. He is a shining example of #USPHLAdvancement In Action!

Charlie Chinian, Florida Jr. Blades

You start to attract the attention of your league and the coaches around the division for honors like this when you score all five goals for your team in a game – including the overtime game-winner. Chinian did this to win the third-place game on the Premier side at the inaugural Florida Cup on Oct. 23.

You don’t earn Players of the Month honors for one big day, though. Over all nine of his games played so far, Chinian registered 10 goals and eight assists for 18 points and a 2.00 points per game average. Even before potting five against Palm Beach, he started the season with a run of 11 points in his first five games.

Vesse-Wincent Lampen, Palm Beach Typhoon

The Typhoon started out on the right note, kicking off the 2022-23 season with a 5-3 win over the Tampa Bay Juniors. They’ve picked up wins along the way to stand just a game under .500 going into their third month, at 5-6-1-0. At 11 points, they’re just four points out of second place.

Lampen is a veteran coming back for the Premier Typhoon, and he’s shown what he can do as a leader with eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points, standing at 1.82 points per game on the season. He’s missed the scoresheet only once and is carrying a five-game streak of multiple-point games into November. Overall, the active streak is at 5-8-13 in six games.

Defense

Braeden Bzovey, Florida Eels

Bzovey (‘03/Winnipeg, Man.) didn’t take long at all to build on the promise of a huge rookie year in the USPHL Elite in 2021-22. He put up 31 points in 37 games while helping the Eels to reclaim the Florida Division title at that level after just barely missing the mark one year prior.

Now with the Premier Eels, he’s even closer to averaging a point per game, putting up eight points in nine contests, another great example of #USPHLAdvancement In Action!

Additionally, Bzovey currently ranks second on the Eels in plus-minus at +11, and he is second in blocked shots as well with 12. He posted a goal and two assists in helping the Eels capture the inaugural Florida Cup over the Oct. 22-23, in the Eels’ first two games after the Category 4 Hurricane Ian slammed into their home city three weeks earlier. It was a win for the Eels, but also a win for a resilient City of Fort Myers.

Owen Larson, Atlanta MadHatters

Larson, a 2002-born native of Smallville, Ga., has been the face of the organization back to when they were known as the Jr. Kings. He entered this season as the all-time leader in games played and in points, and he continues to build on those totals with currently 134 regular season games and 93 points scored in a MadHatters Premier jersey since the 2019-20 season.

After approaching one point per game last year (37 in 39, an All-Star season), he is currently on a better than point-per-game average with 12 points through his first 11 games this year. His 1.09 points per game leads all Florida Division blueliners. Larson also leads the MadHatters in ice time (25:05 per game) and takeaways (80).

Goaltender

Duncan Rolleman, Florida Eels

Rolleman was one of many returners for the Eels looking to push them over the edge when March comes around for playoffs and potentially the Nationals. They’ve been staples in the big postseason party – and came their closest to a title playing the 2021 Championship Game – and this year all the pieces just may be in place for their best run yet.

Rolleman, a 2002-born native of New Hamburg, Ont., has gone 5-0-1-0 so far this season, also putting up a 2.15 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. He exited October on an active four-game winning streak, which included both Florida Cup games, the championship of which saw a 25-game shutout, his first of the season.

Note: October Players Of the Month also includes statistics from September 2022.
