Vancouver Giants clinch berth in 2025 WHL Playoffs

Thanks to some help from the out-of-town scoreboard, the Vancouver Giants have clinched a berth in the 2025 WHL Playoffs presented by Nutrien.

The G-Men were idle on Wednesday night but clinched by nature of a 4-3 Wenatchee Wild loss to the Prince George Cougars.

Vancouver has now qualified for the postseason for a sixth straight time.

Led by top 2025 NHL Draft-eligible winger Cameron Schmidt, the Giants are the sixth-highest scoring team in the WHL.

Schmidt, who was ranked 30th among all North Americans skaters by NHL Central Scouting in the agency’s midterm player rankings, paces his squad with 34 goals and 32 assists for 66 points.

The 5-foot-7 winger made a big impact at the first ever CHL USA Prospects Challenge presented by Kubota Canada in November of 2024 with the game-winning goal and an assist in a 6-1 win in Game 1.

The Giants also boast another four 20-plus goal scorers- Tyler Thorpe, Adam Titlbach, Ty Halaburda and Connor Levis.

Thorpe (Montreal Canadiens), Levis, forward Jaden Lipinski (Calgary Flames) and defenceman Colton Roberts (San Jose Sharks) are the team’s current NHL prospects.

On the blueline, Captain Mazden Leslie is second in scoring among all WHL defencemen with 19 goals and 47 assists for 66 points in 59 games.

Vancouver lifted the Ed Chynoweth cup as WHL Champions for the first time in 2006 and won the Memorial Cup as tournament hosts one season later.

The 2007 battle for CHL glory featured an unforgettable rematch of the WHL Championship between Vancouver and the Medicine Hat Tigers, with Michal Repik netted the Memorial Cup-winning goal in front of 16,281 fans at the Pacific Coliseum.

Vancouver’s mid-aughts success saw the team clinch five consecutive B.C. Division titles from 2006-2010.

The Giants wrap up their regular season against the 2026 Memorial Cup host Kelowna Rockets on Sunday, March 23.

The 2025 WHL Playoffs are set to commence on Friday, March 28.
