Vehicle rollover claims High River Flyers team captain

The Heritage Junior Hockey League is one of our favorite leagues here at TJHN.  It is with regret that this news comes at any time, but in particular during this holiday season.

Bill Holmes, High River Junior B Flyers president, expressed his sorrow following the death of team captain Eli Gosselin, 20, who passed away in a single vehicle rollover northeast of High River early Saturday morning.

The High River Junior B Flyers released a statement on their website soon after coaching staff and management received the tragic news of the death of team captain Gosselin.

“It is with a truly heavy heart that we must pass along the tragic news that High River Flyers captain Eli Gosselin passed away on Saturday morning,” the statement read.

“Eli had been part of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) family and High River Flyers family the past two seasons,” it added.

“We send nothing but our deepest condolences to the entire Gosselin family, and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

RCMP were called to a collision around 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning northeast of High River where they found a red Chrysler Sebring rolled over.

RCMP say two men were inside the car, both pronounced dead at the scene.

The two men that died are 19-year-old Carter Corrigan and 20-year-old Eli Eggli-Gosselin, both are from High River.

The vehicle rollover site had been examined by an RCMP Collision Analyst early Saturday morning. According to a RCMP release, the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

At the time of reporting, police officers stated it remains undetermined if speed and or alcohol were factors in the rollover.
