Las Vegas gets back in the win column with a win over the Fresno Monsters at Gateway Ice Center. Thunderbirds defeat Monsters after losing previous two meetings against them.
An opening period goal by Vegas’s Joseph Terrana at 9:47 held the T-Birds up by a goal for the majority of the game. Fresno sustained the pressure for the length of the tilt. They tested Jesper Ahlberg with 21 shots in the first two frames.
Mikhail Gerasin got the Thunderbirds up 2-0 at 6:08 of the third period, but the division leaders were able to answer.
Petr Philippov managed Fresno’s only goal with 1:11 remaining in the match

Austin Kerridge had himself a career weekend giving the Thunderbirds the edge they need as Vegas cruised to three straight wins after defeating Valencia. Kerridge registered three assists on Friday before putting up a five point effort on Saturday.
Joseph Terrana got the weekend started with the opening goal in Game 1 and continued with his second goal when Vegas made it 3-0.
Rhett Bruckner made a total of 25 saves to earn his 10th win of the season and second shutout.
Bruckner didn’t sport the starting position in Game 2, but Ahlberg remained firm on the back of 26 saves on Saturday. Ahlberg backstopped to his second win in a Vegas uniform.
Las Vegas overpowered the Flyers on Saturday as two players in Gerasin and Kerridge reached hat tricks en route to the 10-goal outing.

The battle for first place in the Western Division continued head-on this weekend with the Sabers splitting the series against Fresno in Selland Arena. San Diego finds itself three points behind division leading Fresno.
The Sabers stunned the Monsters igniting the series with three consecutive goals in Game 1. Caleb Travis, Hunter Howe, and Joel Rothman found the goals before Fresno struck back in succession.
Fresno tied the game 3-3 at 18:25 of the third following a pair of goals from Deakan Fielder and Jon Tagoona.
Rothman found his second goal of the game and won it for San Diego at 11:53 of the third period.
San Diego was met with much more push-back in Game 2 as the Monsters were able to muscle out a 2-1 win. A power play goal from William Markstedt put the Monsters up 1-0 early in the opening frame.
San Diego’s Dylan Travis had the lone goal in the second period, which tied the game 1-1. As the Sabers continued to press they proceeded to outshoot the Monsters 20-10 in the third.
But it was Tristan Baker’s effort at 13:26 that found twine to save the Monsters from a two-game setback.
DALLAS SNIPERS VS. PUEBLO BULLS

With both teams leading the league in overtime appearances, it was only fitting for the first two games of the weekend series to require extra minutes. The Snipers won two of three in overtime as the Bulls avoid a sweep with a regulation win Sunday afternoon.
Dallas quickly got off to the 3-0 start in the first period of Game 1 but saw their lead gradually erase with the Bulls finding one goal per period to tie it 3-3.
Pueblo’s attempt at the rally began with a score from Dallas Hainley and then followed by Ondrej Blaha and Ethan Knudsen.
Gasper Konc sunk the game-winner with under a minute into the overtime.
Both clubs put up at least 40 shots in Game 2 making Saturday’s tilt an exciting one. Jesper Lundqvist played hero for Dallas who won its second game in as many nights.
Pueblo’s, Landen Shaw, sent the game to overtime with his goal at 15:07 of the third that came on the man advantage.
Bradley Richardson had a goal, his only one of the weekend, to make it 1-0 late in the first stanza.
Game 3 proved to be a decisive victory as the Bulls reached the two-goal victory and Milan Breczko led with two goals. The Snipers continued the trend in scoring the first goal each night.
Arthur Aloyan got Dallas on the board at 18:22 of the first period until both teams combined for five more in the second. In the end, Pueblo was able to pull away with four consecutive goals, and slides to third place just two points from the Eagles.
SEATTLE TOTEMS VS. UTAH OUTLIERS

Despite losing two of three games, including a steep shutout loss, the Seattle Totems were able to shun all critics with a Friday night victory in their first meeting against Utah. Seattle becomes just the third team to defeat the Outliers at the Accord Ice Arena and join the Las Vegas Thunderbirds and Ogden Mustangs in that list.
Rustam Kulizade made 44 saves to keep the high scoring Outliers to just two goals in the night en route to his fifth win of the campaign. Three different players reached the winning effort with goals for Seattle including Cory Kane, Cameron Waisman, and Albin Modin—while Daniel Modin assisted on all three plays.
Seattle put together the only succeeding goals of the game, making their third goal count in overtime for the win.
The Totems luck would run out in Games 1 and 2 as the Outliers steamrolled Seattle 7-0 the following night. The Outliers have only lost four times at home and a part of why they are so successful is the stalwart performances put on by Oscar Wahlgren.
Wahlgren made 24 saves in Game 2 to further extend his league-leading shutout count to seven. Dawson Armstrong scored on two occasions leaving five additional Outliers with goals.
After leaving with a different taste in their mouths, Seattle played Game 3 with a much more competitive edge and gave the Outliers a scare late in the second. Utah opened up a 2-0 advantage after Andrei Shmakov scored at 2:29 of the first.
Seattle could cut the lead in half but then conceded a third goal before they scored two unanswered to tie it 3-3 at 3:38 of the third, on a goal from Daniel Modin.
And just how Utah started the game, they closed with two straight goals finally edging Seattle 5-3.
OKLAHOMA CITY BLAZERS VS. EL PASO RHINOS

Niklas Ornmarker was the first star of the game in all three nights as he scored eight goals and three assists through the weekend. El Paso remains firmly in first place and stretches its win streak to 15 games.
The Rhinos only have a single loss at the County Events Center this season so the Blazers needed a herculean effort to dent their armor. Unfortunately, the Blazers couldn’t garner the spark they needed and ended up enduring a herculean effort from the Rhinos who scored 19 times in three games.
The closest game of the weekend manifested itself in Game 1, despite El Paso going on a 4-0 run to have a significant lead by 15:03 of the third frame. Ornmarker’s presence was first felt in this game when he led with two goals. While Jonathan Gullstedt got the first goal, Ornmarker picked up goal number two and four for the team.
Oliver Soovik made 21 saves in Game 2 to blank Oklahoma City 5-0, reaching his 15th win of the season and fifth shutout. Ornmarker snagged the first two goals in the game putting the Rhinos up 2-0 at 1:12 of the middle stanza.
El Paso snuck in a trio of third period goals to extend the lead to 5-0. The Blazers pushed in the third period when it was too late. They managed to outshoot the Rhinos and have them on their heels but couldn’t break the shutout.
The Rhinos came back for Game 3 and so did Ornamarker who had himself a five goal night. Ornamarker secured himself a “Texas Natural Hat Trick,” leading with four straight goals to make it 4-0, and adding a fifth goal in the second.
In the end, the Rhinos built a 9-0 lead before the Blazers could solve Soovik, who only needed to make under 20 saves in the night.
NORTHERN COLORADO EAGLES VS. WICHITA JR. THUNDER

The Northern Colorado Eagles made light work of their road trip to Wichita, cruising to a sweep of the Jr. Thunder with 19 goals in three games. Eagles remain in second place in the division and are just two points ahead of the Pueblo Bulls.
The Eagles were able to secure multiple goal leads in all three games, including a 7-0 advantage to kick off Game 1. Brennan McFarland only played in the first game, but took full advantage of his time with a hat trick.
Wichita’s Colton Sebastian denied Marshall Murphy the shutout when he scored at 2:12 of the third period. Well, Murphy wouldn’t see a shutout this weekend though he did continue for his second win in Game 2.
Eric Hildebrand, Sean McMahon, and Cameron Braun stood out for the Greeley side with both players registering three points. McMahon made it 2-0 before the Jr. Thunder could respond with a Carson Weingartner goal at 8:45 of the first. A series of five straight goals lifted the Eagles including two power play goals.
It wasn’t easy completing the sweep as Wichita put up a fight in Game 3. After being down 3-1, Wichita brought the game within reach when Thien Gamble found his second goal of the game at 11:56 of the middle period.
Tanner Ames started in game three for the winning Eagles and played to his fifth vicrory of the season.
OGDEN MUSTANGS VS. BELLINGHAM BLAZERS

Bellingham is still suffering at home after dropping three to the Ogden Mustangs and has now lost its last six games—13th at home. Ogden becomes the second team in the league to surpass 100-points in the season.
The Blazers conceded 21 goals in just the first two games, but it was they who broke the seal first, getting started on the 1-0 lead in Game 1. Mitchell Trzebiatowski gave the Blazers its only lead of the entire weekend on that goal that came at 18:07 of the first.
But then Ogden returned the favor and erupted with 10 unanswered goals. Eight different Mustangs found goals while David Sudbrink and Bryson Bartell tied with four points. Bellingham was able to give Ogden a good fight at least in the first two periods of Game 2.
Although the Mustangs opened with a 2-0 lead and then had a 4-1 lead, Bellingham didn’t quit. They brought it to 4-3 with Logan Finley and Trzebiatowski getting on the board in the second. Yet again, the Mustangs decided to pour it on with seven straight.
Ogden’s lowest scoring game of the weekend still forced Matt Lee to make 49 saves on Sunday. Emil Svartbro got the Mustangs going 2-0 and Harry Gulliver pushed to 3-0.
ONTARIO AVALANCHE VS. SOUTHERN OREGON SPARTANS

Ontario needed a boost to stay in the race for higher seeding, and they got a full six points this past weekend to help them stay the pace. Ontario certainly brought an avalanche of goals with them, outscoring the Spartans 21-2 in two games.
Jackson Fuller scored six goals over the weekend with two in Game 1 and four in Game 2. Quinn Deshler also presented himself in stalwart fashion with seven points in two games—including four helpers in Game 2.
Romi Huunonen completed the shutout in Game 2, with 18 saves in two periods, though he had to be relieved in the third.
BARRHEAD BOMBERS VS. EDSON AEROS

Edson Aeros reached the expected result in maintaining their undefeated home record in tact, and sweeping the bottom seed Barrhead Bombers. Edson moves to 14-0-0 at Repsol Place while the Bombers couldn’t generate much offense, despite dwindling Edson from 11 goals down to four.
12 different players for Edson got on the scoresheet but Niklas Froden had majority of the share with two goals and three assists in Game 1. Eli Bowers made 19 saves earning his third win and first shutout of the 2019-2020 campaign.
Filip Myrskog made 27 saves in Game 2 to reach his sixth win of the season. It was Mathew Rathbone who put the Aeros on his shoulders with a natural hat trick. Rathbone scored the game winner less than a minute into the third period and followed himself up at the 17:00 and 14:03 marks of the stanza.
Barrhead wasn’t able to score first in Game 3, falling 1-0, but was able to level the match at 5:30 of the opening period when Stran Backfat Redcrow got past Bowers.
Unfortunatley. Bower’s 54 saves would not suffice.
