67’s’ Cameron earns 500th OHL win

Dave Cameron’s 500th OHL win came in a big spot on Saturday night in Erie as the Ottawa 67’s kept their playoff hopes alive in a commanding 7-1 win over the Otters.

Cooper Foster (2-2–4) and Luca Pinelli (1-3–4) each had four points as the 67’s outshot the Otters 33-26 in front of 5,964 at Erie Insurance Arena. Ottawa will require another win on Sunday for a chance at a tie-breaker against the North Bay Battalion with the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference still hanging in the balance.

Cameron, from Kinkora, PEI, is currently in his fourth season at the helm with the 67’s. His OHL coaching tenure began in 1997-98 with the Soo Greyhounds before leading to other stops in Toronto and Mississauga. He also served as head coach of the NHL’s Ottawa Senators from 2014-16 while working assistant assignments in both Ottawa and Calgary.

The OHL’s Coach of the Year in 2023, Cameron has enjoyed a decorated international career with a pair of World Junior gold medals, along with two silvers and a World Championship gold. He’s been named to one of the OHL’s all-star teams on five different occasions in his coaching career.

Cameron becomes the 10th coach in OHL history to win 500 games, joining other active names in Dale Hunter (London) and Marty Williamson (Barrie).
