Owen Sound Attack overage defenceman Alec Leonard has announced his commitment to The Bentley University Falcons for the upcoming 2025-26 NCAA hockey season.
Attack Assistant Coach, Brandon Shaw, stated how proud he is of Leonard for earning a commitment to Bentley University.
“Lenny (Leonard) has been a veteran presence and a true warrior for us. His work ethic and competitiveness have been evident since the moment he arrived in Owen Sound. We are confident that he will bring these same intangibles to Bentley and continue to make an impact on their program. We wish Lenny nothing but the best in both his hockey and academic journey at Bentley, and we look forward to seeing all his future successes!”
Leonard, a native of Toronto, ON, was originally selected by the Niagara IceDogs as a Second Round pick during the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. He played two seasons with the IceDogs (2021-23), then being traded to the London Knights during the 2022-23 season. Leonard would stay with the Knights for three seasons when he would next make his move to the Owen Sound Attack during the 2024-25 season as an overager. Appearing in 237 regular season OHL contests, the 5″11″, 174lbs Defenceman has registered 14 goals, 41 assists, and 55 points over his time in the Ontario Hockey League.
“I’m incredibly excited to announce my commitment to Bentley University. Playing NCAA Division 1 hockey is a great opportunity, and I can’t wait to join the Falcons” Leonard commented.
“Bentley offers a top hockey program with an amazing coaching staff, and the opportunity to pursue my business education at one of the best business schools in the country made this the perfect fit. I’m looking forward to the next chapter of my hockey and academic career.”
Owen Sound Attack General Manager, Dale DeGray says he wants to congratulate Alec and his family on his signing agreement with Bentley. “Alec was looking forward to the possibility of signing an NCAA agreement and no one is surprised that he has done so. Alec has come in and done everything hi could to help our team get to where we are. Congratulations Alec and continued success.”
