“It is essential to the health and safety of all Canadians that we continue to quickly adapt our border measures to respond to the evolving COVID-19 situation. The Canada Border Services Agency officers remain vigilant and are ready to implement these enhanced border measures to protect Canadians.”
Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness
“This afternoon, I convened a meeting with the Incident Response Group. We focused on the new variant of COVID-19 identified in the UK, and we have decided to implement new border restrictions in order to keep you – and people right across the country – safe.”
Justin Trudeau, Canada Prime Minister
France has also banned flights from the United Kingdom as of today.
