Canada Tightens Border Restrictions – USA Closure Extended

Once again the Canada and United States border closure has been extended until January 21, 2021. It is likely to be extended well into summer and possibly late 2021 until vaccinations, and testing measures are in place on both sides of the border.

Canada has now taken the step to cancel all flights from the United Kingdom for at least the next 72 hours.

After reports of a mutated stain of COVID-19 that is much more contagious and spreading through London England have been published, Canada isn’t taking any chances.

“It is essential to the health and safety of all Canadians that we continue to quickly adapt our border measures to respond to the evolving COVID-19 situation. The Canada Border Services Agency officers remain vigilant and are ready to implement these enhanced border measures to protect Canadians.”

Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

“This afternoon, I convened a meeting with the Incident Response Group. We focused on the new variant of COVID-19 identified in the UK, and we have decided to implement new border restrictions in order to keep you – and people right across the country – safe.”

Justin Trudeau, Canada Prime Minister

France has also banned flights from the United Kingdom as of today.

While a new report suggested another mutated strain of COVID has been discovered in South Africa that is more contagious than other stains, little has been reported about it. One report cited a “higher viral load” in the South African strain.
