Confessions Of A Junior Hockey Coach – When Opportunity Knocks Open The Door

Now is the time that many player have the NCAA decision to make.  Between now and May, many player must make the very important decision.

It is also the same time when many player begin to realize that they will not reach the level, or go to the school they had always imagined.

This is not the time to be disappointed.  It is the time to celebrate achievement.  Whether it be NCAA Division one, three, or ACHA, you are about to achieve something that many do not.

It matters not where you set your sight as a young child.  It only matter that you have the opportunity now.

Of course everyone want to go to the big time school.  But not everyone is meant for that type of program.  It is life, and you must deal with it.

The problem that come with this time is with the player who do not seize opportunity.  It is the player who do not realize that he will not get the higher level school.  It is the player who continue to say “why not me”, “I am better than him”, “I played with him and was better”.  It is this type of player who will never be satisfied.

It is this type of player who has always been the whiner and complainer and the “oh poor me” player.  You know who you are, and so do the rest of us.

So when opportunity knock, it is time to open the door.  It is time to recognize the opportunity that has present itself.  Failure to recognize the opportunity usually mean you end up at the next level below what was offered because you cant get over yourself.

There will always be someone else waiting to open the door when you do not answer.  Someone who will recognize and be grateful for opportunity.
