In their inaugural season the Dallas Junior stars are Champions of the NA3HL South Division. The Junior Stars completed the upset over the division leading Topeka Capitals this afternoon in over time.
Blake McIntyre gave the Dallas Jr. Stars a 4-3 (OT) victory over the Topeka Capitals when he scored 2:40 into the extra period.
The win by Dallas clinched the best of three series at 2-1.
McIntyre had a great game for the Jr. Stars, netting two goals.
Dallas’ penalty kill excelled, as the Jr. Stars gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.
Dallas got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.
Dallas also got a goal from Alex MacInnis as well. In addition, Dallas received assists from Matt Zaragoza, Brandon Salisbury, Raurie Petrich, Niko Jansen, and Jake Huspen, who each chipped in one.
Topeka forced the Jr. Stars goalie Chris Mallon to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.
The Capitals were led by Jaydn Munnelly, who finished with one goal and one assist. Munnelly scored 5:41 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Nick Rizzo provided the assist. Topeka also had goals scored by Hardijs Kupaks and Alex Sauer, who each put in one. More assists for Topeka came via Connor Nicholas, who had one.
Chris Mallon made 31 saves for Dallas on 34 shots. The Jr. Stars incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Mike McElroy rejected 23 shots on goal for Topeka. The Capitals incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
