Goaltenders stand tall as Rock and Eagles tie 1-1

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – It was a goaltender’s battle at Pullar Stadium Saturday evening as the Soo Eagles and Timmins Rock skated to a hard-fought 1-1 double overtime draw in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.

Jack Hickey was stellar between the pipes finishing with 53 saves on the night, including 12 in OT, while Logan Ferrington was also solid turning aside 29 of the 30 attempts he faced.

After a scoreless opening period, Timmins took to the lead 14:14 into the second stanza when Tristan Salesse supplied his fourth goal of the early season.

Sault Ste. Marie drew level via the power play thanks to an Evan Ketner effort at 16:57 of the session.

The two goaltenders took over from there keeping opposing shooters at bay through the remainder of regulation as well as a pair of five-minute OT sessions with the clubs going four skaters aside in the initial extra session and three skaters apiece in double OT.
