GOJHL Cherry Cup Champions Waterloo Siskins Fire Head Coach Chris Lazary

In a shocking development, the GOJHL Cherry Cup Champion Waterloo Siskens have relieved Head Coach Chris Lazary of his duties.

It was less than three weeks ago that the Lazary lead Siskins defeated the Stratford Cullitons in game six of the Cherry Cup finals.  The was the Siskins first Cherry Cup championship in 20 years, and Lazary’s first season as the team’s coach.

According to published reports, Lazary made two requests during contract negotiations and both were refused. One involved the hiring process of a new assistant coach and the second was a desire to put the dressing room off limits to all but players and coaches.

Both of those requests are considered to be standard request of many head coaches as they relate to the operations and proper order of operating a junior hockey program.

Many throughout the GOJHL and Canadian hockey community believe that is was Lazary who was the critical factor in the success of the Siskins this season.  Many are also now saying that it is unlikely they will have the same success with Lazary now gone.

TJHN has learned that multiple teams have already reached out to Lazary in regard to coaching next season.

TJHN will update this story as more information becomes available.
