KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners duo of Brayden Stortz and Marc-Antoine Arseneau combined for 10 points Thursday night to help lead their club to a 6-1 victory over the Blind River Beavers in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Stortz tallied twice and helped set-up three others while Arseneau doled out five assists aiding the Gold Miners, who skated to their fifth consecutive triumph.
The game was scoreless until late in the opening period when Kirkland Lake struck twice in a 39-second span on markers by Stortz and Brandon Wolfe.
Stortz tacked on his second marker of the night 2:20 into the middle stanza for the lone goal of the session as the home side took a 3-0 lead into the final frame.
In the third, the Gold Miners used special teams to put the game away getting a pair of man advantage efforts from Logan Fredericks as well as a shorthanded tally off the stick of Kameron Shearer.
Sean Paterson’s team-leading seventh of the season accounted for the lone Blind River goal in the third.
Shots on goal favoured Kirkland Lake 31-21 with Tyler Mazzocato earning the victory while Martin Miloslavich suffered the loss.
