Gold Miners double up Eskis 4-2

KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – A Brayden Stortz tally a minute into the third period proved to be the game-winner as the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners doubled up the Iroquois Falls Eskis 4-2 Sunday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.

Kirkland Lake picked up the lone goal of the opening frame as Dalton Anderson connected on a play at 9:29 where Blake Anderson and Dylan Holt drew assists.

Special teams allowed the Gold Miners to extend their lead 14 minutes into the middle stanza as Jesse Houlton scored on the power play.

After Stortz made it 3-0 early in the third, the Eskis got on the board at 5:22 courtesy of a Brett Ouderkirk man advantage effort.

Iroquois Falls drew closer midway through the session when David Osborne brought the visitors to 3-2.

Marc-Antoine Arseneau iced it however in the final minute to secure the victory for Kirkland Lake.

Tyler Mazzocato made 24 stops in earning the win in net for the Gold Miners.

Joe Sheppard was busy in goal for the Eskis as he finished with 53 saves in defeat.
