ESPANOLA, Ont. – Kirkland Lake Gold Miners rookie goaltender Tyler Mazzocato turned aside all 26 shots he faced to record his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout Friday helping his side blank the Espanola Express 3-0 at the Regional Recreation Complex.
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, the Gold Miners got the only tally they would need on this night as Blake Anderson notched the eventual game-winner at 7:23 of the second.
Anderson added another for Kirkland Lake near the seven-minute mark of the third as he scored his second of the evening and fourth of the season to put the visitors up by two.
Evan Bidenti then rounded out the scoring supplying an insurance marker for the Gold Miners with 6:29 to go.
Dylan Holt dished out a pair of assists for Kirkland Lake to aid their offensive cause.
Mazzocato has now gone 9-0-0-1 in his first 10 appearances in the NOJHL and sits second in the league in goals-against average at 1.77 and leads all league netminders in save percentage at .932.
Kevin Labelle stopped 36 of 39 attempts fired his way in defeat for Espanola.
