The Kirkland Lake Goldminers Juior A Hockey Club are pleased to announce the NCAA commitments of Captain Ashton Amaya and Alex Storjohann.
Captain Ashton Amaya will continue his hockey career at NCAA Division 3 Aurora University, in Aurora, Illinois, just outside Chicago. The Gilbert, Arizona native made an immediate impact with the GoldMiners, being named team captain, after training camp. Amaya had a great season, finishing with 59 points in 56 games, good for 5th in Import scoring. Amaya tied for 3rd in PP goals with 11 and 5 game winning goals among his 26, placing him among the Top 20 NOJHL goal scorers. Amaya, who shifted from right-wing to center seamlessly, was 2nd in Team Playoff scoring, with 9 in 6 games. Ashton will suit up alongside former GoldMiner AJ Rupert for Coach Jason Bloomingburg’s Spartans, in the NCHA Conference next season, when they’ll face former Miners Ethan Strong & Logan Fredericks at UW-SP & Turk Scatliff at Concordia.<.
Alex Storjohann will join Coach Joe Cardarelli and the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons, NCAA Division 3 squad in the SUNYAC Conference, in Cortland, New York. Storjohann, from Anthem, Arizona, was acquired from the Carleton Place Canadians, of the CCHL, 10 games into the season and promptly went off! Alex finished 5th in NOJHL scoring with 73 poits in 46 games, led the NOJHL in assists 53, led in Pts per Game avg, 1.59, led in powerplay Assists, 19, and led all US born scorers. Then in the playoffs he led all playoff scorers in PPG Avg at 2.0, 14 pts in 7 games. Next season Storj will face the likes of former GoldMiners, Zach Pease, Dylan Rosen, Sam Wilbur & Josh Erickson, who all play in the same conference.<.
