Icebucket challenge touches hockey community, BCHL dips in

If you’re a social media contributor, there’s almost no chance you haven’t seen it yet.

An awareness and fundraising campaign for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), better known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, has taken on viral status via Twitter and Facebook.

The idea is for individuals to accept challenges and nominate their friends to do the same in dousing themselves with a large bucket of ice-filled water. In the throes of some serious summer heat, there is no shortage of folks willing to soak themselves down.

In the BCHL and Junior A hockey across Canada, there have been a few outstanding icebucket challenge videos posted. Here are some examples:

Ron Gallo – media relations, Prince George Spruce Kings

Jesse Jenks, goalie, Prince George Spruce Kings

Kevin Abrams, commissioner, Central Canada Hockey League

Jason Williamson, head coach, Vernon Vipers

Other notable hockey personalities have joined in as well. Perhaps the most elaborate is this video from noted Twitter contributor Paul Bissonnette:

Others:
David Backes, captain, St. Louis Blues (plus a challenge to BCHL alum Tyson Strachan)

Sidney Crosby, captain, Pittsburgh Penguins
