For goaltender Beau Lane, going to play for the South Shore Kings in the NCDC was the best decision he made as it helped lead to him earning an NCAA Division III commitment to SUNY-Plattsburgh for the 2025-26 season.
Lane had originally started this season in the NAHL before making the switch over to the NCDC where he found a home with the Kings. In 12 appearances since joining the team in December, Lane has gone 9-2-1-0 while playing 718 minutes. His GAA currently stands at 2.17 and he has been an intricate part of the Kings continued success this season.
“The South Shore Kings is one of the best organizations I have ever played for,” said Lane. “Making the move to come to the Kings was a no-brainer, the rigorous on ice and off-ice work prepares you for college hockey. The NCDC does a great job of moving players on to the next level. It’s very easy for college coaches to come to games and even easier to watch online.”
Lane has been in talks with the coaches of SUNY-Plattsburgh since this past summer and things took off from there. The coaching staff really liked “my size and athleticism that I bring to that table” and he knew he would be a great addition to the team.
When Lane visited SUNY Plattsburgh he knew right away that is where he wanted to spend his next four years playing hockey and getting a good education. Lane plans to major in criminal justice.
“As a school they give you everything you need to succeed and the support they get from the community is second to none,” said the Pembroke, Mass., native. SUNY Plattsburgh does a great job of preparing their students with the transition to work life with their amazing internship programs. They also have top notch athletic facilities and give you every resource you need to get to the next level.”
The best part of Lane’s game as goaltender is his ability to read the play and get to his spots as fast and efficiently as possible. As for taking his talents to SUNY-Plattsburgh next season, Lane is hoping to keep working hard to be the best he can be.
“At the next level I’m going to have to be more controlled with my movements and have more consistency in my game,” said Lane.
Before he makes his debut at SUNY-Plattsburgh, Lane hopes to do one more thing with the Kings. “I hope to win a Dineen Cup this season,” said Lane.
The NCDC congratulates Beau Lane, his family, the South Shore Kings and SUNY-Plattsburgh for his commitment.
