OUR 18 – Drakkar ready to row in the right direction

What was supposed to be a down year in Baie-Comeau last year became an unexpected drop to the very bottom of the QMJHL standings. The Drakkar now set sail on its 30^th anniversary voyage prepared to take the first steps back to the top of the standings yet again.

Offense, which was at a premium last year, will be by committee. Robin Benoit represents to top returning scorer from last year while a pair of transactions during the off-season bring overagers Brayden Besner and Dominic Pilote into the fold to provide both depth and veteran presence.  Liam Armit will be relied upon to take another step forward after a solid rookie campaign. Among the newcomers up front are 2026 second rounder Bryce Lazare and a trio of Austrians – Jonathan Oschgan, David Waschnig and Johannes Dobrovolny – all chosen in this Summer’s CHL Import Draft.

The blue line is anchored by veterans Matthias Gilbert and Drew Allison, while former first round selection Biagio Jr Daniele enters his first full campaign in Baie-Comeau prepared to be deployed in all situations. This trio will also guide along a group of younger rearguards which includes freshman Enzo Roy and second-year skater Zachary Hachey. The lone returning netminder to training camp with any notable amount of QMJHL experience is Mathias Hernandez, who performed admirably after arriving from Chicoutimi during last year’s holiday trade period. 2026 QMJHL first round selection Nathan Boulanger represents the future between the pipes.

Bringing this group together is new Head Coach Patrice Bosch, an assistant with the club for the past three years including its run to the league Final in 2024. He represents yet another key member in the Drakkar’s continuing trip back to contention.
