Seattle’s Anthony Earns NCDC Call-Up To Rock Springs Grizzlies

By Seattle Totems Staff

The call up call this past Sunday evening and Anthony reported to Rock Springs on Tuesday for a full week of practice. He played in his first NCDC game on Dec. 1 against the Pueblo Bulls.

The call up to the NCDC was well deserved, according to Totems Head Coach Mike Butters.

“Luke has rediscovered his scoring touch and it is great to see his progress is being rewarded,” said Butters. “With Luke, it came down to confidence on his part. He is a premium talent at this level and his call up simply proves that. We are all happy for him that he is going to get an opportunity in Rock Springs.”

Rock Springs General Manager Darren Naylor was equally as optimistic with the advancement of Anthony.

“Luke was a player we initially had here in training camp. We recognized his talent but felt he needed some time with [Butters] and the Totems to get his game going,” said Naylor.

Butters was outwardly open about other players who, too, may see time in the NCDC.

“With Luke gone, other players will have to step up. There are a few guys who have come a long way since the start of the season and I strongly feel they will get a chance to prove it at the higher levels, like the NCDC.”

Naylor shares Butters’ vision.

“One of the first things we did when we set things up in Rock Springs was to align ourselves with a program that we could send our developmental players to get the playing time and coaching they need to elevate to the NCDC. I played professionally for Coach Butters and saw the work he did with Tampa Bay in the NHL. I trust him and his handling of our players. We are looking to the Totems to be a good pipeline for us.”
