NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners erupted for six third period goals to help send them to an impressive 11-2 victory over the French River Rapids Friday evening in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Noelville Arena.
Kirkland Lake took a 2-1 lead after one period of play on a pair of Brayden Stortz markers that were sandwiched around one by the Rapids’ Adrian Nicholas.
Tyler King tied for French River three minutes into the middle session, but it was all Gold Miners from there as they notched the game’s final nine markers to win going away.
Three of those tallies came before the second stanza was complete on efforts supplied by Joel Fortin, Evan Bidenti and Logan Fredericks, who notched his 20th of the season.
Kirkland Lake kept coming in the third making it 6-2 on Stortz’s third of the evening at 8:02.
Alexander Hester added another for the visitors 28 seconds with Brandon Wolfe picking up one midway through the frame.
Hester then tallied twice more two and a half minutes apart to finish off a hat trick Trevor Hester’s first NOJHL goal late rounded out the night’s scoring.
Alexander Hester added two assists for a five-point game while defenceman Blake Anderson doled out four helpers in the contest.
In all, nine Gold Miners’ skaters had multiple-point evenings in the win.
Tyler Mazzocatto made 32 saves to register the triumph for Kirkland Lake, who blasted 62 shots on French River netminder Zach Mills.
