Syracuse Stars Must Pay Court Judgement

The legal issues facing the Syracuse Stars and Don Kirnan appear to be coming to a head.

Kirnan, who is the found of the long time Syracuse Stars junior hockey team, is also the founder and leader of the Federal Hockey League.  The FHL is a struggling “Single A” level professional hockey league, best compared to the real life version of the movie “Slap Shot”.

Kirnans use of the Syracuse Stars not for profit status has crossed from use in junior hockey to being used in the FHL as well.  Last May, a suit was filed in the Lycoming County New York Courthouse by the city of Williamsport New York, for unpaid utility bills, a rent check, as well as other bills accumulated in the failed Williamsport Outlaws FHL venture.

It turns out that the “Outlaws” were appropriately named.  Allegations of close to a quarter of a million dollars in debt being left behind and tied to the Syracuse Stars because the organization was used to secure some of the debt.

It appears now that a pattern may be developing with the Stars.  In Onondaga County New York, on July 3rd, the Syracuse Stars were found to be liable for $5,493.00

That money is owed to Suburban Propane in Brewerton New York.

While not an enormous amount of money, one would have to question how and why a pay to play organization would be owing thousands of dollars to anyone?  Unless that pay to play organization is actually funding the FHL as some are now suggesting.

Kirnan until the FHL, was a highly regarded junior hockey operator.  Since the formation of the FHL and its multiple disasters, including a fake fight last year and a player drinking beer while on the ice, many are now questioning what is taking place with the Stars organization and Mr. Kirnan.
