Team NOJHL falls 4-1 in Central Canada Cup Challenge opener

TERREBONNE, Que. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Selects dropped a 4-1 decision to the Quebec Jr. AAA Hockey League’s St-Louis-Lalime Division all-stars Friday in opening day action at the Central Canada Cup Challenge showcase event in Terrebonne, Que.

With each contest consisting of two, 20-minute periods it was the NOJHL who grabbed the lead with the lone tally in the opening stanza courtesy of a Brett Wagner (Elliot Lake Bobcats) power play marker at 13:37.

Shawn Tessier (North Bay Trappers) and Anthony Miller (Soo Thunderbirds) drew assists on the play.

The final session was all the side from Quebec however as they scored four times to pull out the victory.

After Karl Léveillé leveled the proceedings at 3:44, Janick Asselin struck shorthanded four minutes later with the eventual game-winner.

Philippe Charbonneau then added some insurance at 15:34 while Benjamin Lagarde iced it with an empty netter to complete the scoring.

Shots on goal favoured the LHJAAAQ squad 24-16 with Jeffrey Turcotte registering the win and Joel Horodziejczyk suffering the setback.

Player of the game laurels went to Wagner and Asselin.

Team NOJHL returns to game action at 5 p.m. today as they meet the Central Canada Hockey League, who kicked off the six-team event with a 2-0 shutout over the Ontario Junior Hockey League’s South-West side earlier in the day.
