Is a twenty four game schedule for the season really going to be considered a junior hockey season? Well, in the AEJHL it is, and thats if they can keep things together beyond this week.
The Lac La Biche Islanders played last weekend against a court order. So the home team labled those games as “exhibition games” on the league website and statistics. This brilliant move made in the hope that they themselves would not get his with a contempt of court order this week.
After all, whats the difference between playing a regular season game and an exhibition game against a team that has a restraining order against them? The difference according to one source in Lac La Biche is none, and we are told the NJHL is back in court going after the other teams in the AEJHL now.
But does the AEJHL even exist outside of its website or the spaces between the ears of its founders? Founders you say? Oh yeah, on August 26th, the AEJHL made this statement “Steve “Big Mac” MacIntyre Named Commissioner of the AEJHL” News: Alberta Elite Junior Hockey League Welcomes New Commissioner – Alberta Elite Junior Hockey League
Ummm yeah so, that looks like it didnt quite work out. MacIntyre is not listed anywhere on the website other than in that press release. No board of governors is listed either. Looks like even the founders dont want to be attached to this abomination.
But never fear. In the infinite wisdom that is ever so apparent in the AEJHL leadership, they are still begging to be let into another league. You know, just in case the Northern Alberta Lighting’s eleven skaters decide they want to play in a real league with a real schedule.
Speaking of the Northern Alberta Lightning, their roster grow by one over the past week and they really showed that imporvement over the weekend with twelve skaters getting pumped.
That same Northern Alberta team that is now facing a court action from the NJHL. Yep, probably shouldn’t break contracts when the guy writing them has an attorney on stand by.
To add to the carnage, the USPHL’s Bassano Beavers are no more. Someone set the trap and is now making themselves a new tophat. That folks is team number thirty two that has folded this season.
Just a hint to AEJHL players and parents, a twenty four game season is not a junior hockey season when you play in a four team “league”. That is called mens league and if you’re in a good mens league at least you have a beer sponsor, and the AEJHL doesnt have one.
