The Death Pool – BCHL Goes Pay To Play

The end of free to play hockey in the BCHL has finally arrived. Yes, you read that correctly.

While the BCHL announced they “intend” to return to play on December 1, 2020, and that training camps can open in September for three months leading up to that “intended” start date, some information was deliberately withheld.

BCHL teams opening “training camp” in the months leading up to the “intended” start of the season will be charging players between $2000 and $3000 per month.

As one person said to me in an email;

“30 players for September/October? November at Skills development camp at $2000 dollars per player?  How much is that per team?  $60K per month for 3 months per team?  Why play a season, when you can supplement your bottom line doing it this way! What a fucking joke.  The Mighty BCHL, “ were not pay to play” ya OK, tell us another lie!”

Or as another Adviser said;

“Lots of media and press around the BCHL start date today; conveniently they left out that their extended training camp and exhibition season will ask the majority of the players to pay $3000 per month for three months.

30 players/team = $270,000/team.

If they need fans to operate how are they operating for 3 months then?

IF they start in December and US players are allowed in, what happens to all of the players that have paid $9000?

They are looking to pillage the Jr.B level to sell ($$$) the BCHL experience. Cash grab.

Not a fan. I will be advising my players not to go there.”

And the other little piece of information the BCHL left out is that bringing 30 players in for “training camp” while only being allowed to roster 21 on the Hockey Canada Registry means that 9 players are automatically screwed the second they arrive at “training camp”.

All those people who have been complaining about how I have been saying for four months that the CJHL teams need money to operate and that they would find a way to get it now I present the proof.

And AMERICANS ARE STILL NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED TO CROSS THE BORDER TO CANADA TO PLAY. People need to get that through their heads.

Who wants to spend three months in training camp and not play meaningful games? Especially when the December start isn’t even guaranteed.

I give the BCHL credit for having the balls to make an announcement on the December start. But hiding the fee’s is chicken shit amateur hour.
