The Death Pool – Big Trouble In Canada

Yeah so I am gonna piss a bunch of people off north of the border today.  Getting right to it;

Hey Canada your junior hockey system is broken.  Yep, its so broken you cant even find a solution.  But hey, don’t bitch at me for pointing out the truth.  All you got to do is read all the local news reports of teams loosing money.

When teams are borrowing HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of dollars from communities, you got a real financial problem.  When teams continually have to ask their community owned arenas to “forgive” tens of thousands of dollars in unpaid ice bills, you got a real financial problem.

When teams publicly announce that they need more community support from sponsors and ticket sales, it says you have bigger problems outside of just hockey.

Yeah in case you didn’t look at the calendar its 2017.  Not 1957.

You know who isn’t bitching about money in Canada?  The OJHL, CCHL, NOJHL, and the big old “G” show.  Why?  Because they all charge players a fee to play.

Why do you think that is?  Well its pretty simple if you open your eyes to see it.

The days of multi millionaire owners who are willing to lose money every year are gone.  Yeah because people with a lot of money didn’t get to be people with a lot of money by loosing a lot of money.  You know, its like all a sudden rich people who like hockey just pulled their heads out of their asses and said “what the hell am I doing?”

This money crunch is coast to coast.  You got teams all across Canada going back to their communities looking for money and these communities are taking tax payer dollars to support private business.  Sounds pretty stupid to me.

I love it when I read about a team who says they need more support or they may have to move or fold.  Hey buddy, if your business doesn’t make money, you should move or fold because your business doesn’t work!  Kinda simple math there.

I love it when I read “the team is a community asset”.  That one is awesome because it usually comes from someone who is in government and spending someone else’s money.  Or, its a city official who also owns a hotel that visiting teams stay in.  Yep, nothing like making sure you get what you want through back channels.

Its time for people to wake up.  You got a $50,000 deficit?  Sounds like 25 players each need to pay $2,000 to play to me.  You got a $100,000 deficit?  Sounds like players need to pay $4,000 to play.

Oh yeah and hey, how about all you money losing teams stop paying “development fee’s” to obtain players from other teams.  Yeah, you know, like the $5,000 per player some of you idiots are spending.  Kinda like someone with a shopping problem and an unlimited credit card isn’t a good thing.

Oh, and maybe you guys could shorten the season.  Maybe cut down on expenses a little?  Yeah like a few less road games is a few less bus trips, meals, and hotels.  See cause if your home gate and sponsor receipts isn’t going to cover your expenses you got to cut your expenses.  Something I learned in DECA in high school boys, you might want to look into that.

Ohhhhh shit.  Don’t let me forget.  Maybe you guys need to stop paying through the nose for league staff and all the insane layers of political bullshit you have.

But hey, its all good right?  Its not like the “outlaw” competition is expanding.  Ohhhhh shit, sorry about that.  Yeah, turns out the “outlaw” competition is expanding.

Don’t worry though, I am sure you guys will be fine, its not like Canadian players are leaving home.  Ohhhhh shit, sorry about that.  Yeah, turns out they are leaving home in big numbers for the NCDC, USPHL and WSHL.

Nothin to see here kids.  We are all just making sure our asses get a good sun tan while we have our heads buried in the sand.
