The Death Pool – Signs Your Team Isnt Trying To Promote You

Ohhhhhh shit.  Monday is going to be a bad day for some coaches at the junior and AAA levels.  Yep, nothing quite like just pointing out facts.  You know those pesky little things that make people question who they are spending their money with.

So yeah, lets talk about the biggest problem in Tier III and AAA hockey.  The problem that coaches make all kinds of promises concerning how they will promote the players to the next level, and then cant or wont follow through.

The number one problem is that coaches, or organizations are not distributing any player contact information.  I was in Blaine Minnesota this weekend to watch the Tier 1Elite playoffs.  Great hockey being played in the league but one big problem.

Everyone must be really concerned that players are going to get grabbed by other teams that the AAA program doesn’t want to deal with because next to no player contact information was made available to scouts.

Think its not a problem?  Some scouts don’t want to have to go through the coaches because guess what?  Some coaches aren’t even telling the players that a scout called about them!

You might want to ask your Midget or Tier III coach if you can see a copy of player marketing materials they give out to scouts.

Another indication that something might just be a little wrong…..All your coaches talk about is the top players who already have their future teams set up.  Its the players who don’t have the future team commitments that need to be talked about.

Are your teams statistics up to date on their website?  Is information on the team website up to date and easy to find?  Do you notice your kids coach doesn’t respond to emails or phone calls in a timely manner?

Has your coach explained what he would like for your son next year?  Or is your coach more concerned with getting you to re-sign with his team for next year?

It isn’t rocket science.  The best organizations move kids on to higher levels.  They aren’t looking to keep kids at the same level.  So what is your team doing for you?  Where is all that money going?

You can either ask yourself these questions, or ask your coaches.  But if you aint asking them to someone, you got a bigger problem.
