Back again for a double dip on a Monday kids. Its like ice cream, two scoops are always better than one.
You know, all hockey teams tend to take on the characteristics of their leaders. It all starts with the coaching, and flows on down through the captains. Its contagious, hell, if you listen to some players talk they even start to take on mannerisms of their coaches. Its pretty crazy, but that’s what happens when players buy into a belief system and/or culture.
The Pacific Junior Hockey League has a tradition, or history of being a hard nosed league. No room for soft players in this one kids. Its a pretty skilled league for Junior B too.
But the PJHL is no stranger to controversy, or unwarranted stupidity.
Enter the Mission City Outlaws and Langley Knights. A Thursday night tilt turned into a Thursday night at the fights. Insert old bad hockey joke here. While the Knights were trailing the Mission City Outlaws 9-3 we offer the following video which should have Bennie Hill music in the background.
Thanks to CBC for the video link;
Yep, still the same old shit going on in some places. Fans actually heard cheering for this garbage. Get a clue you freaks, hockey doesn’t want you as fans any more if you think this is cool.
So yeah I spent a little time investigating this ordeal.
Turns out, the Head Coach of Langley is none other than John Craighead. Yep, one of the all time minor league penalty minute leaders for fighting majors. Of course players would never want to do anything to impress the old coach by brawling in a way he used to be known for, or would they?
Of course Coach Craighead was only going into the other teams bench to “deescalate” the brawl.
Ummmmmmm yeah, just in case you didn’t know, going into another teams bench under any circumstance violates pretty much every rule in Hockey Canada. Might wanna re-read the old rule book there coach.
Someone also might wanna remind Craighead that the last coach who did something stupid in the PJHL ended up getting 15 days in jail and 12 months probation. Nahhhhh why use that example when it only happened two years ago?!
Oh yeah, and what about the kid who may have a broken leg because of this stupidity? Will he play hockey again this year, or ever again for that matter?
Leadership. Coaches preach it every day. Maybe someone in the PJHL wants to show everyone what real leadership is and suspend all these idiots for the rest of the season.
