Yeah well that didn’t take too long did it? A whole ten hours spent deliberating by the jury. Yep, it only took ten hours to sort through the evidence concerning three sex crime accusations! Sounds to me like the evidence was pretty convincing if it only took ten hours for three accusations to be decided.
Neil Joynt was convicted on two counts of indecent assault, the first which took place at his parents’ Battersea home in 1962 and another while camping on Big Rideau Lake north of Kingston in 1973 or 1974.
The prosecution called a total of five witnesses in the almost two week trial, including all three alleged victims and two others. The defense called four witnesses, including Joynt as well as his wife, Margaret, his son Richard and a childhood friend of his son’s.
That’s it. Nine witnesses for nearly two weeks? How many coffee breaks were being taken for this thing?
Then Joynt is allowed to walk out of the court room? Yep, he is still free on bail after being convicted of sex crimes. Does this make sense?
Joynt is not due back in court until January 27th, 2017 for the reading of a pre sentence report. Then he will have more time to go home and prepare for sentencing which could take place oooooooooohhhhhhh maybe a few months later? What an embarrassment of a justice system for the victims.
Better yet, the judge reminded jurors that they couldn’t talk to the press about the verdict. In Canada they cant talk even when the case is over! The judge made a comment to the effect of “this is not sixty minutes”. Well you’re right there judge, but maybe sixty minutes needs to do a story on just how screwed up your system is. The fact you went out of your way to even mention that says all anyone needs to know about you.
