Timmins holds off French River rally to win in OT

NOELVILLE, Ont. – Jordan Rendle’s second goal of the game, coming 62 seconds into overtime, was the difference as the Timmins Rock withstood a French River Rapids rally to win 4-3 in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up Saturday at Noelville Arena.

Timmins came out flying as they grabbed a 3-0 lead on first period markers by Alex Brisson, Cory Sprague and Rendle.

French River got one back with 21 seconds remaining in the frame thanks to a Matt Verrault power play goal.

After a scoreless middle stanza, French River moved to within one midway through the third on William Michaud’s first of the season.

They then forced extra time with 6:05 left in regulation as Gregory Trudeau-Paquet notched his 11th of the season to level the proceedings at 3-3.

However it was the Rock that prevailed in OT with Rendle winning it for the visitors to give them the second point on the night.

Caleb Barris made 30 stops to record the triumph for Timmins while Al Rogers helped the Rapids salvage a point thanks to a 61-save performance.
