Timmins tops French River

NOELVILLE, Ont. – Wayne Mathieu tallied twice and dished out an assist to help pace the Timmins Rock to a 7-3 triumph over the French River Rapids Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.

The Rock started to roll right off the bat as they stormed out to a 3-0 lead after one period of play on markers by Cory Sprague, Tyler Romain and Jacob Shankar.

Mathieu then added his first of the night 38 seconds into the middle stanza to put the visitors up by four.

French River got one back at 17:02 of the session courtesy of Gregory Trudeau-Paquet, but Tyler Romain countered for the Rock just 33 seconds later to make 5-1 after two.

Action in the third saw each side tally twice as Alexandre Brisson and Mathieu scored for Timmins while Trudeau-Paquet and Will Frustaglio countered for the Rapids.

Shots on goal in the contest favoured Timmins by a 69-29 margin with Caleb Barris picking up the win while newcomer Korlan Vader was tested often in defeat for French River.
