For months there has been much speculation on the future of the USHL’s Indiana Ice regarding their ability to secure a building to play in during the 2014-2015 season.
With one potential building going under construction while their former home will house a ECHL minor pro team, the Ice do not have a building for next season.
While multiple attempts were made by the team to temporarily relocate, the league did not want a temporary relocation, and some arenas did not meet USHL standards.
Multiple sources have said that Costa Papista, from Sports Business Consulting LLC. was actively involved in assisting the USHL and Indiana Ice in finding solutions. Papista was a consultant for the USHL’s Muskegon Lumberjacks during their transition from minor pro to the USHL, and is said to have been a key to their successful move. Recently Papista was seen in Port Huron, as McMorran Arena was explored as an option. That option was declined by the USHL’s board of governors twice.
Sources are reporting that this is a dormancy situation at this point and not a folding of the franchise. Options to bring the franchise back will continue to be explored until those options are exhausted.
TJHN will update this story as more information becomes available.
