USPHL Elite Players Of The Week: Sept. 15, 2022
By USPHL Staff
The USPHL congratulates its first group of Players Of The Week, for this week only representing all of the league as only six teams competed last week. Going forward, Players Of The Week will be awarded by Division.
Forward: Jake Gifford, Carolina Jr. Hurricanes
Gifford (‘04/Cary, N.C.) has already equaled his entire 2021-22 output. He put up nine points off one goal and eight assists against the Hampton Roads Whalers in a sweep weekend. He had nine points in 39 games last season, so his trajectory points in a swift upward direction.
Defense: Wes Sweitzer, Charlotte Rush
Sweitzer (‘03/West Chester, Pa.) put together a fantastic weekend as the Rush put up a pair of wins against the first-year Columbia Infantry. Along with scoring two goals and adding one assist on the weekend, he helped the Rush keep the Infantry to just one goal (their first ever in the first period of Game 1).
Goaltender: Devin DeCarlo, Columbia Infantry
An Elite veteran, DeCarlo (‘03/Roseville, Md.) put up an impressive performance, stopping 87 of the 94 shots he faced over a weekend of getting shelled by an always talent-rich Charlotte Rush team. He stopped 51 of 54 shots in the Infantry’s debut, keeping it a 3-1 game until late in the second period.
