USPHL Premier New England Division Players Of The Month: December 2024

Forwards

Scott Allan, Islanders Hockey Club

Allan (‘05/Pittsburgh, Pa.) doubled up his points per game with five goals and three assists for eight points in four games in December. Allan improved to 20 points in 21 games so far this season, his first with the Islanders. Allan is a product of the THF to USPHL pipeline, as he joined this year from the Pittsburgh Predators AAA team of the THF 18U league.

Bogdan Guntypov, Islanders Hockey Club

In Guntypov (‘06/Moscow, Russia), we have a #USPHLAdvancement In Action success story, as Guntypov advanced from the USPHL Elite’s Islanders squad – with whom he won New England All-Star honors last season – to the Premier, and now he’s a Player Of The Month at Premier. He registered seven assists and added one goal in the IHC’s four games of last month. He is fourth in team scoring with 25 points in 29 games.

Riley Greer, Boston Junior Bruins

Another strong presence for his team who put up 2.0 points per game last month, Greer (‘05/Daytona Beach, Fla.) registered five goals and added nine assists for 14 points in seven games. He now has 28 points in 21 games, and like Allan, he is another THF to USPHL success story. He moved up to the Premier Junior Bruins from their 18U AAA team in the THF last season.

Forward Honorable Mention: Jack Roberts, Islanders Hockey Club

Defense

Mitch Jongmans, Islanders Hockey Club

Premier veteran Jongmans (‘04/Hedel, Netherlands) is enjoying great success in his third season and first with the Islanders. When he plays his next game, it’ll be his 100th Premier regular season contest, and he has 42 points in three years on the blue line. He scored a 2-2-4 line in four December games, and he has a career-best 15 points in 23 games so far this year.

Nick Zanin, Springfield Pics

Zanin (‘04/Stockbridge, Mass.) has been one of the top defensemen league-wide since Day 1 of the 2024-25 season and that certainly didn’t change in December. He is tied for fifth in Premier defenseman scoring with 34 points in 27 games, and he has 65 points in 113 career games, all with the Pics. For December alone, he had a 2-5-7 line.

Defense Honorable Mention: Cameron Gardiner, Utica Jr. Comets

Goaltender

Derek Sparks, Utica Jr. Comets

Sparks (‘05/Grand Prairie, Alb.) went 4-1-0-0 during the month of December and stopped an outstanding 187 of the 199 shots he faced. That gave him a .940 save percentage and a 2.44 GAA for the month. He joined this year from the Kelowna Chiefs of the KIJHL, and has been a fantastic success for his new team. Sparks enters 2025 action on a three-game winning streak, and he is 8-8-0-0 with a .924 save percentage on the season.

Goaltender Honorable Mention: Matthew Dore, South Shore Kings

Selection Process: The division’s coaches are presented with a ballot form with statistical leaders (ranked by points per game average for skaters and save percentage for goaltenders) and vote on that form. The league takes the results of that vote and presents the coaches with the finalists, who are able to vote on further changes if desired.
