USPHL Premier Players Of The Week: Midwestern Region

Games of Oct. 29-Nov. 4

 

Forward: Brycen Smith, Metro Jets

Smith (‘06/Port Huron, Mich.) had a fantastic trip to Tennessee to start November, scoring two goals and adding four assists for six points in the Jets’ sweep of the Red River Spartans. He has improved to 11 points in eight games overall this season. 

 

Defense: Landon Edwards, Toledo Cherokee

The second-year Premier veteran Edwards (‘05/Richfield, Wis.) scored a pair of goals and added two more assists as the Cherokee won their seventh and eighth games in a row going into the Coney Cup series on Nov. 8-9 against the Metro Jets. 

 

Goaltender: Nicholas Wah, Cincinnati Jr. Cyclones 

Wah (‘04/Pasadena, Md.) registered his first two wins of the season with outstanding performances on Nov. 1-2, stopping a total of 82 shots out of 84 total, including a 45-save shutout on Nov. 1 against the Fresh Coast Freeze. 

 

Midwest Division

Forward: Christopher Otero, Metro Jets Development Program

Otero (‘05/Pembroke Pines, Fla.) scored his second straight hat trick on Nov. 1 and went on to add one more goal and four assists for an eight-point weekend in the MJDP’s 2-0-1-0 weekend against the Decatur Blaze between Nov. 1-3. 

 

Defense: Jacob Belley-Pelletier, Metro Jets Development Program

Belley-Pelletier (‘07/St-Pascal, Que.) put up four assists in the three-game series against Decatur. The second-year Premier veteran now has nine points in 11 games.  

 

Goaltender: Nick Gingold, Chicago Cougars

Gingold (‘05/Flagstaff, Ariz.) registered 35 saves against the Motor City Gamblers on Oct. 29, marking his first career Premier shutout in his two seasons. 

 

North Division
Forward: Max Young, Minnesota Mullets

Young (‘06/North Oaks, Minn.) absolutely tore it up over three games for the Mullets between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2. He scored four goals – including the game-winner on Nov. 2 vs. Isanti – and he also added five assists for nine points in three contests. The first-year junior out of Mounds View High School now has 25 points in 16 games. 

 

Defense: Jake Knieling, Dells Ducks

In a pair of Ducks wins against the Chicago Crush on Oct. 29-30, the second-year Premier veteran Knieling (‘05/Arlington Heights, Ill.) put up four assists – two in each game. Knieling currently has 13 points in 14 games for this season. 

 

Goaltender: Avery Smith, Minnesota Squatch 

Squatch two-year veteran goalie Smith (‘05/Raleigh, N.C.) stopped 44 of 45 Minnesota Blue Ox shots on Nov. 1 for a big 5-1 victory. He improved to 4-1 on the season with a .934 save percentage. He has a 13-6-2-0 record for his career.

 

Selection Process: Divisional statistical leaders are presented to coaches, who are able to vote on the leaders, or nominate and vote on alternate candidates.
