South Shore Kings 4, Islanders Hockey Club 2
South Shore earned the upset victory today in North Andover, winning 4-2 against the Premier New England Division’s top seeded Islanders Hockey Club. Payton Kender scored the GWG and added an assist, and Eison Nee also had a goal and an assist. William Palmer had two assists and Matthew Dore made 21 saves on 23 shots. The Islanders’ Thomas Cafarelli made 20 saves on 23 shots. Game 2 is back at Merrimack College on Friday at 12 p.m.
Florida Jr. Blades 5, Atlanta MadHatters 2
The Florida Jr. Blades won their Florida Division play-in game against the Atlanta MadHatters by a 5-2 score and will move into the double elimination playoffs tomorrow against the top seed Tampa Bay Juniors. The Jr. Blades rebounded from a 2-0 deficit. Sander Georg Korrell and Easton Hall each had two goals, Jack Treacy posted four assists, Jonas Oesterle had three assists and in net, Gage Cercone stopped 38 of 40 shots.
Universel Sherbrooke 6, Hawkesbury Knights 3
Universel Sherbrooke defeated the Canada Division No. 2 seed Hawkesbury Knights, 6-3, on Thursday night for an early 1-0 lead in their division semifinal series. Victor Proulx scored twice, while Mattia Gaier, Jason Maltais, and Noah Trempe all had multi-point games. Simon Thibault had 43 saves on 46 shots for the win. On Saturday, the teams hit the ice again at 7:15 p.m. for Game 2.
