Wednesday Highlights: Sting start the new year strong, upset number one ranked Knights in overtime

London Knights 2 at Sarnia Sting 3 OT

  • Sting rookie Beckham Edwards sniped the OT-winner, tying him for a league leading 14 rookie goals.
  • Sarnia’s Dylan Luecke opened the scoring, giving the Sting an early advantage.
  • Daylen Moses scored in the second frame to extend the Sting lead to two.
  • A big third period for the Knights with goals from Sam O’Reilly and Denver Barkey tied things up and sent the game to overtime.
  • The sting improve to 12-19-2-5 and snap a nine game losing skid with this win.
  • Nick Surzycia made 29 saves on 31 shots in the win.

Owen Sound Attack 3 at Oshawa Generals 4

  • The Attack pushed forward throughout all three periods, but it wasn’t quite enough to overcome the Gens, with Brady Smith scoring the game-winner late in the third.
  • Antonio Tersigni opened the scoring for the Attack just three minutes into the game, but the Generals answered right back scoring two within 24 seconds in order to take the lead. 
  • Anthony Figliomenti scored his first career OHL goal to get the Gens on the board.
  • Isaac Gravelle made 31/34 stops in the win, while Trenten Bennett made 24/28 saves for the Attack.

Brampton Steelheads 3 at Kingston Frontenacs 4

  • Jacob Battaglia scored the game-winner for the Fronts late in the third period, securing a big comeback win.
  • The Steelheads came out hot, with first period goals from Aidan Lane and Angus MacDonell giving them an early lead.
  • Kieren Dervin scored his first career OHL goal to tie the game up at three in the second period.
  • Nolan Lalonde made 26 stops on 29 shots in the win.
