Over the course of his head coaching career, Tatarnic has compiled an impressive record of 600 wins, 289 losses, and 102 ties, cementing his place among the most accomplished coaches in junior hockey.
Tatarnic’s coaching success spans multiple leagues, including the SIJHL, MHL, BCHL, and SJHL, before arriving in the NCDC this season. Prior to his move to the NCDC, he guided every team he coached to its respective league finals, demonstrating a consistent ability to build winning cultures.
His résumé also includes significant playoff success, with league championships in Woodstock in 2006, 2010, and 2012, highlighted by a silver medal at the 2012 National Championship with the Slammers. Tatarnic also holds the record for the highest winning percentage in league history (.920), set during the 2010 MHL season. In 2021, he captured a SJHL league championship in Estevan.
“I want to thank all the players who were part of those 600 wins,” said Tatarnic. “It was their effort, commitment, and performance that made this possible. I’ve been fortunate to coach a lot of great athletes and work with dedicated staff members throughout my career, and this milestone is a reflection of everyone involved.”
Tatarnic will coach his 1000th game on March 5th when the Slammers host the New England Wolves.
