6-goal 2nd sends Gold Miners to 9th straight win

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Kirkland Lake Gold Miners erupted for six second period goals to send them to their ninth consecutive Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League victory Friday evening as the dropped the Soo Eagles 6-1 at Pullar Stadium.

After a scoreless opening 20 minutes, Kirkland Lake came out flying in the second stanza.

Marc-Antoine Arseneau gave the Gold Miners the lead with a man advantage effort at 7:27.

Logan Fredericks put the visitors up by two at 13:07 while teammate Dylan Holt and another by Fredericks 19 seconds apart later on made it a 4-0 game.

The Eagles got on the board with 2:29 left in the frame on a Sam Rappaport effort, but Kirkland Lake struck twice more off the sticks of Alexander Hester and a hat trick goal from Fredericks to round out the scoring.

Brayden Stortz dished out four assists to aid the Gold Miners cause.

Tyler Mazzocato made 27 saves to record the win for Kirkland Lake.

Cam Burggrabe started for the Soo and suffered the loss facing 31 attempts in two periods of work.

Jack Deines played the third and stopped all nine shots he saw in relief.
