TIMMINS, Ont. – Andrew Castagna scored twice in the third period and then notched the game-winner early in overtime as the Timmins Rock rallied to edge the Powassan Voodoos 4-3 Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at McIntyre Arena.
Powassan got off to a good road start grabbing a 2-0 lead after the opening session on a pair of Tyler Peters tallies as the Voodoos forward notched goals 24 and 25 of the season.
After a scoreless middle stanza, Castagna got Timmins on the board at 8:54 of the third with his first of the night.
Peters finished off a hat trick for the visitors as he scored on the power play for a second time with 6:39 remaining to make it 3-1.
Jared Hester brought the Rock closer less than two minutes later before teammate Castagna forced extra time with a man advantage effort with 3:09 left in regulation.
In the OT, Castagna won it early as he capped off the comeback by beating Powassan netminder Garrett Forrest to give Timmins the win.
Landen Matechuk had two assists for the Rock in his NOJHL debut.
Jordan Rendle also had a helper to extend a point streak to eight while Aaron Kerr saw his eight-game run come to an end.
Logan Ferrington made 35 saves to record the win for Timmins while Forrest faced 49 attempts in the setback allowing the Voodoos to salvage a point in the standings.
