Dineen Cup Playoffs Day 8: April 1, 2025

Mercer Chiefs 4, Jersey Hitmen 3

The Chiefs take a series lead of 2-1 after defeating the host Jersey Hitmen by a 4-3 score in regulation on April 1. The Chiefs’ Jake Stevens scored the GWG, and he also had an assist. Gregory Diamond and Ty Tuccitto also had a goal and an assist apiece, and Cole Werthman made 44 saves on 47 shots for the Chiefs. For the Hitmen, Nick Bunch made 36 saves on 40 shots. Game 4 will take place on Wednesday at 3 p.m. EDT.

 

Northern Cyclones 4, Utica Jr. Comets 0 

We saw our first team make a divisional championship round when the Northern Cyclones closed out a four-game series against the Utica Jr. Comets with a 4-0 victory. Paul Dalessio sealed up the shutout by stopping all 27 shots he faced. Lukas Eich’s first period goal at the 3:39 mark stood up as the GWG. The Cyclones will face South Shore in the New England Division Championship series, with the start date TBD.

 

South Shore Kings 7, Worcester Railers JHC 4

South Shore is bound for their third straight New England Division Championship series, after sweeping the Worcester Railers JHC in a 3-0 series victory. On Tuesday, they defeated the Railers 7-4. Will Rassier scored twice and added one assist, Hunter Bruce put up three assists, and Jake Kavanagh had a goal and added two assists. Jason Zaccari had two assists, and Alec Babineau registered a goal and an assist. In net for the Kings, Beau Lane made 27 saves on 31 shots. They move on to face the Cyclones in the Division Championships.
P.A.L. Jr. Islanders 8, Rockets Hockey Club 2
The Jr. Isles have closed out their Atlantic Division Semifinal series with a 3-0 victory, following Tuesday’s 8-2 win against the Rockets Hockey Club. It was a huge game for Ryan McKenna, who scored four goals and added one assist, and Arthur Mirante earned four assists. Robert Lachance had three assists. Ryan Franks scored a goal and an assist, and Hayden Vonk and Ryan Kearney each had two assists. In net, Ethan Ramonetti came on in relief after the Rockets went up 2-0 and stopped all 39 shots. The Jr. Islanders will advance to face the winner of the Mercer Chiefs vs. Jersey Hitmen series in the Atlantic Division Championship series.
Idaho Falls Spud Kings 4, Pueblo Bulls 0 
The Spud Kings won 4-0 on Tuesday night in Pueblo, setting up what should be an epic Game 5 in Idaho Falls on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. MDT against the Bulls.
 
Charlie Durkin turned away all 24 shots he faced for the shutout. Andrew Schmidt scored twice, and he also had an assist. Easton Edwards registered a goal and an assist. For the Bulls, Noel Friedman was impressive in relief, making 23 saves on 24 shots.
Ogden Mustangs 4, Utah Outliers 2
The Mustangs took a 2-1 series lead after they beat the Utah Outliers, 4-2, on Tuesday night. Mustangs veteran Brody Simko scored the GWG, helping the Mustangs come back from being down 2-0 in the first period. Dilans Birkans made 29 saves on 31 shots for the Mustangs, and on the other side, Matthew MacArthur turned away 46 of 50 shots. Game 4 of the series takes place Thursday at 6:05 p.m. MDT in West Valley City, Utah, home of the Outliers.
