Jake O’Brien played a big part in helping the Brantford Bulldogs secure the Hamilton Spectator Trophy as the League’s Regular Season Champions on Friday, scoring twice while adding two assists in a 6-5 win over the North Bay Battalion at the TD Civic Centre.
O’Brien also made Bulldogs history, pulling ahead of former teammate Patrick Thomas on the club’s all-time scoring list, finishing the game in top spot with 255 points (73-182–255) over 180 career regular season games.
Brantford’s captain, O’Brien was chosen by the franchise in the first round (8th overall) of the 2023 OHL Priority Selection after he led the Toronto Jr. Canadiens to an OHL Cup title, being named MVP of the annual showcase. The Toronto native’s trajectory has only gone upward since then, as he vaulted himself into second in the OHL scoring race with his four points on Friday. He has 93 points (28-65–93) over 53 games in his third OHL season.
A former OHL Rookie of the Year Award recipient, the 6-foot-2, 177Ib. centreman was drafted by the Seattle Kraken in the first round (8th overall) last summer, signing an NHL contract on July 3, 2025.
