Week 2 (Sept. 28-Oct. 3)
South Division
Forward: Tyler McNeil, Jersey Hitmen
McNeil (’02/ Valencia, CA) has kept his goal-per-game streak alive. Over the weekend, he scored three goals and three assists over three BJB Shootout games, bringing his point total up to 11 for the season. He is projected to end the season with 88 points, coming close to beating his final total in last year’s USPHL Premier season with the Fresno Monsters.
Defense: Rhett Kodsi, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights
Kodsi (’04/Boca Raton, FL) scored the first game-winning goal in the Knights’ NCDC history. He was also credited with 12 takeaways against the Islanders Hockey Club on Friday and Saturday, giving the Knights their first weekend sweep as well.
Goaltender: J.J. Cataldo, Jersey Hitmen
Cataldo (’03/Stuart, FL) had a 28-save shutout against the Northern Cyclones this weekend. This was his second shutout of the season. On Sunday against the Boston Jr Bruins he had 36 saves on 37 shots. His save percentage remains a mind-boggling .977, easily leading the NCDC early on in the season.
North Division
Forward: Marko Giourof, Northern Cyclones
The second-year Cyclone Giourof (‘03/Torrance, Calif.) was huge for the Cyclones this past weekend at the BJB Shootout. In the team’s last game of the weekend, a 6-5 win over the Connecticut Jr. Rangers, he scored the game-tying goal to force overtime and eventually a shootout, in which he scored the game-winning shootout goal as well. He also had an assist in that game.
Two games earlier, Giourof scored the first of three goals to help the Cyclones bounce back from being down 2-0 to the Rockets Hockey Club towards an eventual 4-3 win.
Defense: Nick Pomerleau, Twin City Thunder
Another second-year NCDC veteran for his team, Pomerleau (‘03/Lewiston, Maine) came out of the weekend with an assist on Gavin Simopoulos’ goal, the only one for the team in a 1-1 game that went to a shootout. Pomerleau ended the shootout with his goal, the only one of six shooters to find paydirt. He was also a +1 for the weekend for Twin City.
Goaltender: Jake Fillion, New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs
Since starting the season on Sept. 27, Fillion has been unbeatable. In four games, he has given up just four goals and has two shutouts. He saw a shutout streak extend for 166:03 through the heart of the BJB Shootout. Fillion is second in the NCDC in goals against average (1.00) and save percentage (.961).
