Utica Jr. Comets 6, Worcester Railers JHC 4
The Jr. Comets earned a big win in Massachusetts on Saturday, with Jr. Comets veteran Niko Benjamin (’04/Surprise, Ariz.) and Carson Zick (’05/Merrimac, Wis.) each had a goal and an assist, while Gustas Zemaitis (’06/Barrington, Ill.) and Wyatt Swonger (’04/Pekin, Ill.) each dished out two assists. In net, Dylan Eliason (’04/Northville, Mich.) registered 39 saves on 43 shots. For Worcester, John McLachlan (’04/Fairport, N.Y.) put up three points to lead his team.
South Shore Kings 4, Northern Cyclones 3 (OT)
With 15 wins in a row since Sept. 20, the Kings are starting to make a run at some history. Already with their best winning streak in team history, the defending Dineen Cup Champion Kings won 4-3 in overtime on Saturday. Bowdoin College (NCAA Division III) recruit Caden Wells, a 2005-born Phoenix, Ariz., native, registered two goals including the OT game-winner. Gregor Jennersjo (’04/Stockholm, Sweden) had two assists, and William Baker (’05/Norwalk, Conn.) stopped 37 of 40 shots for the win.
Rockets Hockey Club 3, Connecticut Jr. Rangers 0
Jason Cai (’05/Basking Ridge, N.J.) moved to 3-0 since joining the Rockets earlier this month, after stopping 31 shots against the Connecticut Jr. Rangers. Jared Rothman (’06/Chappaqua, N.Y.) put up a goal and an assist and he is tied for the league scoring lead.
Mercer Chiefs 4, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Knights 3
The Chiefs were 4-3 winners and moved to within one point of the Atlantic Division-leading Jersey Hitmen. Captain Anthony Sparo (’04/Bensalem, Pa.) scored his first career hat trick, while Easton Swift (’05/West Hartford, Conn.) registered three assists. Jack Gricus (’05/Burr Ridge, Ill.) added a pair of assists. In goal, Dominick Gatto (’05/St. Charles, Ill.) stopped 29 of 32 shots for the win.
West Chester Wolves 2, Jersey Hitmen 1 (OT)
The Wolves won their second in a row when they defeated the Hitmen, 2-1, in OT. West Chester, Pa., native Charles Becnel (’04) scored the OT winner, while Owen Norman (’04/Oro-Medonte, Ont.) had a goal and an assist and Nico Pasquale (’05/Chicago, Ill.) had two assists. In net, Griffin Davis (’05/Nashua, N.H.) put up 31 saves on 32 shots.
Casper Warbirds 5, Rock Springs Grizzlies 4 (OT)
Ty Bashaw (’06/Fond du Lac, Wis.) scored the game winning goal and added an assist as the Warbirds earned three points on the weekend. Sean Boltin and Reece Allman, both ’05’s from Chicago, had two assists apiece, and Joseph Ziska (’05/Omaha, Neb.) also had a goal and an assist. Ryan Henry (’04/Wayne, N.J.) stopped 43 of 47 shots for the win in net.
Idaho Falls Spud Kings 6, Utah Outliers 1
The Spud Kings closed off a three-point weekend with a clear victory against Utah. Liam Filip (’04/Grafton, Ont.) scored his first hat trick of the season, and Andrew Schmidt (’05/Chicago, Ill.) scored two goals and one assist for three points. Easton Edwards (’05/Anchorage, Alaska) had a goal and an assist. Charlie Durkin (’06/Glencoe, Ill.) stopped 25 of 26 shots.
Ogden Mustangs 5, Pueblo Bulls 2
The Mustangs won their second in a row to remain in first place in the Mountain Division coming out of the weekend. William Cherniak (’04/Desert Blume, Alb.) scored two goals for the victory, and improved his points per game above 1.00 points per game at 36 points in 35 games. Troy Hunka (’06/North Canton, Ohio) enjoyed a three-point night with a 1-2-3 line and Brooks Cogswell (’05/Andover, Minn.) put up a goal and an assist. Dilans Birkans (’06/Islkile, Latvia) made 28 saves on 30 shots to get the win.
