The Death Pool – Brookings Blizzard Barely Avoid Actual Deaths Trying To Save Money

Tis the season to save money apparently. Then again, it looks like the Brookings Blizzard hockey team thinks all year every year is the season to save money.

Standards. Everyone bitches about Tier III standards and how teams don’t provide what people pay for. How about the NAHL and USA Hockey standards that require Tier II teams to provide safe transportation to players among other things?

Just in case everyone forgot about the Humboldt Broncos tragedy last year, it involved unsafe travel conditions along with other factors. Can anyone forget that this hockey season?

It looks like someone from the Brookings Blizzard has forgotten that tragedy. And it looks like Tier II and NAHL standards are meaningless in the face of saving money.

When the team bus breaks down, a seemingly regular thing, the team orders the players to drive themselves to an away game a few hours away. Forget the fact that the team should have hired and paid for a replacement bus. The team sent a bunch of teenage boys on winter roads for hours to play a game that could have easily been postponed.

But no. The team didn’t want to spend the money for a replacement bus. And this has been happening for a few years according to players past and present. So they tell players they have to drive themselves and put their lives at risk.

Who the hell made this decision? Who makes this decision on more than one instance? And who lets the team get away with this? What does the league have to say about this?

The Brooking Blizzard are a disaster. They have the worst record in the NAHL, and from an operational standpoint look more like the shit show Wilmar Warhawks of the NA3HL. Oh damn, wait a minute. The same guy owns and operates both of these teams!

This is not what junior hockey is supposed to be about. This is not an example of what real junior team operations should look like.

This is a train that came off the tracks over a year ago, and its time for someone to step in before someone actually gets killed.
